Drones have their uses—flying through Painted Hall

Beautiful views taken by a drone of the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

The hall is undergoing restoration. The hall was originally the dining room for the Royal Hospital for Seamen and was painted by Sir James Thornhill, taking 19 years ending in 1727. It’s called the Painted Hall, not just because of the many murals, but because for a time it was the National Gallery of Naval Art. After being completed, it was almost immediately deemed too grand for its original purpose as a mess hall. Hospital inmates, however, did receive some benefit from it, making money by acting as tour guides. The hall has appeared in many films, including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Thor: The Dark World.
