Mansfield Park Opera

I think an opera company that would tackle Mansfield Park, which many regard as a … difficult … book, has to be extraordinary and I wish I could be there, especially for the private performance at Boughton House, the Duke of Buccleugh’s Northamptonshire residence on July 31.

Nevertheless, Heritage Opera has taken up the task of staging the book as an opera with ten singers — oh how I want to hear Mrs. Norris kvetch in song — with that first private performance and then with performances from Aug. 1 to 11. You can also follow their exploits on facebook.
