Best … Holmes … poster … ever

OK, you can debate that claim, but you have to admit this poster for A Study in Terror, wherein Sherlock Holmes, as portrayed by John Neville, takes on Jack the Ripper, is quite an eye opener.

I love the “BIFF!” and “POW!” and the almost forgotten “elementary, my dear Watson” at the bottom. I can’t remember if I’ve seen this, although Neville as Holmes make such sense that I think I must have seen it. Donald Huston, at least in the few seconds of him in the trailer, appears to be the bumbling sort of Watson and the film is further aided by Anthony Quayle and Robert Morley in supporting roles.

Of course it looks like a Hammer film, although the production company is listed as Compton/Sir Nigel Films, which would later produce The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. I couldn’t find it on Netflix, but I was alerted to the film by Amazon.
