Postal Museum, Bath:
We know as much of Jane Austen as we do because of her letters to her sister. By the 1800s, the postal system was much improved, especially in Bath, by postmasters Ralph Allen and John Palmer, and you can view the progress of the postal system at the Bath Postal Museum. It’s amazing to think that two hundred years ago in London you could send a letter and have it received elsewhere in London the same day, made possibly by the penny post (although by the time of Sense and Sensibility it’s the two penny post).
