Tempted by the dark side

I find that the more and more I research and write My Particular Friend, the more and more good information I find at the websites of romance writers, like this link at author Jo Beverly’s website.

Which makes me wonder whether I should be reading romances as well. Realistically, I don’t have the time to start reading Regency romances, which I can’t help but think of as bodice rippers. And yet a lot of these authors really seem to have done their research and in my limited interactions with them have seem to be very gracious and friendly. I suspect my reluctance just disguises the fact that I’m secretly terrified that I could easily become a romance junkie.

It’s just I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole, which explains why I have intentionally not added pure romance authors to the authors’ pages. I am trying to limit the authors’ pages to those works that have some connection, however tenuous, to Jane Austen, which I admit is pretty disingenuos considering how tenuous is my book’s connection to Austen.

I write this simply to answer some questions recently of the selectivity of the links at this website. I am open, however, to differing opinions.
