Update on the twitten “Library Passage” in Worthing

An update from Christopher Sandrawich with the Midlands branch of the Jane Austen Society in the UK:

I am copying in all those who I have already alerted to the possibility of the closure of this right-of-way used by Jane Austen during her stay at Stanford’s Cottage in Worthing in 1805, and those who have an interest in Jane Auisten and happen to be in my email listings. To anyone in this category: if you did not want this email, then I apologise.

There are many people in UK Government involved in Transport and the key players are:
Rt Hon Justine Greening MP – Secretary of State for Transport
Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP – Minister of State for Transport
Norman Baker MP – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport {who is, I notice, the MP for Lewes in East Sussex, so there is a local connection we might be able to use}
Mike Penning MP – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport
and their address is: Dept for Transport, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR alternatively you can write to them at: House of Commons, London. SW1A 0AA

It seems clear to me that if we want our voice heard and we want this twitten, which it would be unreasonable in the extreme to say that Jane Austen did not use, to remain open then the more letters we can send to the Secretary of State for Transport from people and JAS organisations which campaign for its survival are crucial to its wellbeing.

Once closed it will never be reopened and the chance to go to Worthing and walk in Jane’s footsteps will be lost to present and future generations.

If the other end of the twitten emerging into a bus station requires costs to make it safe then Tourism may provide the funding required to meet that need.

We have two months to make an impact and I am willing to supply additional information to anybody that needs it who is interested in helping prevent closure of this twitten known as Library Passage.
