Obligatory “Upstairs, Downstairs” post
I felt I should make some mention of the new “Upstairs, Downstairs,” although I feel very unqualified so to do because I never saw the original. I’ve always been an Anglophile, of course, but in my youth was more interested in the daring exploits of Sherlock Holmes or Professor Challenger rather than the daily drama of No. 165 Eaton Place.
That aside, I should say I very much enjoyed the new series although I am rather disappointed there are only three one-hour episodes. It makes me thing the new series is something of a trial balloon by the BBC. And I am afraid that I have little else to offer and I would urge anyone curious about the new series to visit Jane Austen’s World or Austenprose for more informed opinion.
I will say that if you are curious to see the real-world exterior of No. 165 Easton Place, you should visit updown.org.uk for more information. And then visit Google Maps street scenes to see the exterior of the building.
