Rejoice! A new BBC Blandings series is here

The lark’s on the wing, the snail’s on the thorn, God’s in His heaven and all’s right in the world because P.G. Wodehouse has returned with a new Blandings series on the BBC. The only sad note is that I can’t see it yet because I am doomed, DOOMED! to live in the U.S. and the BBC iPlayer still has no provision for us former colonials to watch the series.

The casting looks great, with Timothy Spall as Lord Clarence Emsworth and Mark Williams as Beach the butler, with the always wonderful Jennifer Saunders as Lady Keeble (or Connie, as her brother Clarence would call her). Jack Farthing seems to uphold the tradition of playing Freddie Threepwood as sufficiently dim witted and I would love to see who plays Galahad Threepwood. The actor who plays the efficient Baxter also looks spot on.

It looks like the only options for watching the show in the U.S. will be to buy the series (I think I must) or wait until it is uploaded to YouTube. No, I definitely can’t wait.
