It’s new to me: The Beekeeper’s Apprentice

I just picked up The Beekeeper’s Apprentice from Laurie R. King. It’s the story of the friendship of a 15-year-old girl, Mary Russell, and Sherlock Holmes after his retirement to the Sussex Downs where he took up beekeeping.

It looks promising, although I never understood or believed Doyle’s decision to retire Holmes. It was obviously a better solution than killing him off.
