Big Ben

A children’s history club has suggested that I add a link to Big Ben: The History of the World’s Most Famous Clock. Although I can’t off the top of my head think of any Holmes adventures taking place in what is now called the Elizabeth Tower (formerly the Clock Tower), or any association with Big Ben (the bell) or the clock, which is also commonly called Big Ben, it certainly was a sound that Holmes, or any Londoner, would have known. (That sentence wins the award for the most clauses.) The history club found this website after visiting myparticularfriend.com, and found both useful, so thanks for letting me know about this interesting resource. I’ve always thought Westminster Chimes (or Quarters) to be an instant transportation device to 1895 and the foggy streets that Holmes and Watson knew.
